Taking a chance on something or someone can be a heart-stoppingly terrifying experience. The unconventional route can hold many traps and pitfalls, but often once you’ve overcome these risks you’ll often find yourself with a seriously inspiring, valuable and ingenious result, one that would otherwise may never have existed. The career of this month’s speaker, James Hurman, is testament to that.
James is the founder and principal of Auckland innovation consultancy Previously Unavailable. Prior to launching his own business, James was an advertising agency leader whose career was built on marketing campaigns internationally renowned for their creativity and effectiveness. Many of his campaigns have seen him taking chances on unconventional ideas, strategies and processes.
His resulting work for the likes of TVNZ, DB Breweries, Vodafone, V Energy Drink, Westpac, Yellow Pages and Levi’s has been recognised with 22 Cannes Lions (the Oscars of advertising) and 50 local & international marketing effectiveness awards. To top it off, in 2013, James was named the world’s #1 advertising strategist.
James is also the author of internationally acclaimed business book The Case for Creativity, a treatise on the link between creativity and commercial success, described by The Coca Cola Company as “beautiful words of wisdom.”
Having crafted an impressively successful career, James is bringing his personal tales of the power and beauty of chance to us at Creative Mornings.
This CreativeMornings will be our last for 2014, and with October marking our 3rd birthday we thought we’d use our November event to have a joint birthday/wrap up celebration. Our friends at Skillshare have provided us with a 1-year memberships to give away! Tu meke!! We’re thinking a game of chance will be in order. So be prepared to play this Friday!

Tonight’s your last chance to get along to the wonderful Art in the Dark in Ponsonby’s Western Park. Organised by past CreativeMornings speakers, Celery Productions, it’s always such a special experience.
Don’t miss it! More details at http://artinthedark.co.nz/
Catch up on October’s CreativeMornings talk, featuring the past and present Artistic Directors of the fantastic Silo Theatre, Shane Bosher and Sophie Roberts.
Silo have just announced their 2015 Season (which looks amazing), so it was such an honour to be able to sit down and hear from these two creative heavyweights.
Watch the talk above or bookmark it for later listening at creativemornings.com
