This past month, we were delighted to bring the stellar Micah Blaise from Girls Rock Charleston. Show some support by donating, volunteering, or simply promoting the great work they do to empower girls and trans youth throughout the Charleston community, toward racial, gender, and economic justice for all.

And look out for her amazing talk coming soon!

February was all about CLIMATE. We got together at the Charleston Library Society. Thanks to Counter Culture Coffee for always bringing the beautiful coffee set up. And to Jericho Advisors for making the B.Y.O.C. (Bring Your Own Cereal) breakfast bar happen! Everyone generously brought cereal, and after the event we donated the rest to the Lowcountry Food Bank. To kick the morning off, we played a game of Rapid-Fire-Climate-Pictionary to get everyone in the climate frame of mind. Artist and Craftsman generously donated prizes for the winners!

Our speaker was none other than Dana Beach, the Director of the Coastal Conservation League. He shared about the city’s history, the changing layout, and overall the urban climate of Charleston. Dana enjoyed sporting the Mailchimp hat for the second half of the morning. What a guy!

January Creative Mornings was all about UGLY. Funny thing, it was hosted by the amazingly beautiful Candlefish candle shop. Such a treat! Our speaker was Brooks Reitz, a Charleston entrepreneur and owner of Jack Rudy Cocktail Co, Leon’s Oyster Shop, and St. Alban to list a few. Brooks talked about his choice to open restaurants in an unexpected area of town, and outfitting them with vintage pieces and garage-sale-finds. Wildflour provided a delicious breakfast - thanks so much to everyone who contributed to make January a great Creative Mornings to start the year.

We had a great, festive Creative Mornings in December - thank you to everyone who came and everyone who was a part in making it such a fun morning! (Poster by Fuzzco)

Our speaker was Edward Hart, who is the Chair of the Music Department at College of Charleston and a very talented composer. He spoke about Finding Your Voice. He talked about the process of creating his pieces and where his inspiration comes from. It was fascinating.

The setting was the beautiful Library Society, one of the oldest Library’s in the Country, and the single oldest Library still circulating books. Its beautiful and ornate and hardly any of the attendees had ever been inside before that morning.image

Lovely Coffee Set Up by Counter Culture - they ace it every time! (And that lovely pop of red - Linens from Snyder - Thanks Guys!)

Goodie Bags with a few of our Favorite Things from all over town! Matches from Candlefish, a caramel from The Park Cafe, pens and a surprise treat by Artists and Craftsman, and a festive candy cane from Jericho Advisors

For our third Charleston Creative Mornings, we had two incredible Charlestonians tell us about the chances they’ve taken.

image

Design by Fuzzco.

Smarel Nicole (Nikki) Brown, of Dellz Vibez, inspired us to keep on, despite  the road blocks and the hard moments, and do what you are truly passionate about. She also brought some of her amazing juice and shared the good Vibez with everyone who came that morning. What a great way to start a day. image

Gustavo Serrano is an entrepreneur in every sense of the word. He shared his story about moving from the Big Apple to start a clothing store in the unchartered territory that was Upper King many years ago. He shared his experiences with owning the shop, starting and planning the extravaganza that was Kulture Klash, and getting creative to pay the rent (i.e. roller skate fashion shows!)

image

Browns Court generously supplied delicious baked goods. Mmmmm mmm mmm!

image

Counter Culture brought their A-Game and beautifully served pour-over coffee. There’s nothin better on a cold November morning.

image

Servin’ up Dellz Vibes juice to all who came. Thank you for sharing!

image

We decided to mix it up a little bit … so everyone who came had to take a chance and sit by someone new. It worked out pretty well.

image

More chance - one lucky winner got this lovely assortment from Artist and Craftsman Supply.

And all hosted by the amazing Halsey Institute. Thank you thank you for sharing your beautiful space!

image

Thanks to all who came! We look forward to seeing you at the next one!

Thank you all for making it out to another amazing Creative Mornings event! The morning was filled with inspiration from our speakers Paul Roof and Jamaadi alongside cups of delicious coffee from Counter Culture at the ever so lovely Halsey Institute.

Paul Roof giving us all some insight on his passion for teaching and the students that have impacted him with their life stories.

The talented artist Jumaadi preparing to deliver a soothing poem influenced by the people and city of Charleston.

Much thanks to Counter Culture Coffee and Collective Coffee for keeping our eyes open and stomachs full of delicious goods. All presented in the most professional way atop linens provided by Snyder Events.

In an attempt to make our epicly bearded speaker feel at home mustaches were adorned and provided by Artist & Craftsmen, and captured by our slew of talented digital artists. Photos by Chloe Gilstrap and Ben Jack, and video documentation of all that was worthy of a warm upper-lip from Katie Condon.

You can copy/share/browse the large library of the event and mustaches at our Flickr page.

Thanks again to the Halsey Institute for having us (and inviting us back), and to Skillshare for hooking us up with some annual memberships and of course our national sponsors MailChimp and Squarespace!

Join us again on November 21st at 8:00am at the Halsey Institute for another morning of creativity. See you soon!

Thank you to everyone who made it to our first ever Creative Mornings Charleston on September 26 at the ever lovely Fuzzco office. It was an amazing turn out and we are so thankful to everyone who came and contributed to make it all happen!

image

Thank you to our AMAZING speakers, Caitlin Etherton and Lulie Wallace. Caitlin inspired us with colors of nature out at the farm, reminding us that agriculture like art requires growing something from seed to final creation.

Lulie brought her amazing color palate to the table, and showed us how jelly bean colors and encouraging artistic community have shaped and changed the way she creates art.

image

image

Thank you to Sugar Bakeshop and Counter Culture for providing amazing breakfast spread and pour over coffee.

image

In addition to being our gracious host, Fuzzco designed our event poster. They teamed up with The Half and Half to print these limited edition  screen print posters.

Each month’s posters will be for sale at our meetings and all proceeds go to the Creative Mornings Charleston chapter. Want to help our CMCHS? Buy a beautiful poster at our next meeting! $15.

It took a lot of generous folks to make our first CMCHS a reality! We are so grateful to Snyder Events for donating chairs, Flowershop at Mixson for beautiful flowers, Artists and Craftsman for our door prize and materials, Revival Entertainment Company for sound and tech set up, and Jenny Kleiman for a projector. We can’t thank everyone enough!

Chloe Gilstrap captured the event in photos which you can find on our Flickr page. And Hunter Boone is our video partner for this month. Video coming soon!

And THANK YOU of course to our official partners, MailChimp and Squarespace. We couldn’t do this without you!

Stay Tuned for our next Creative Mornings Charleston on October 31, 8:00 am. Speaker and location to be announced soon!
