Two Partner Members - D'Sean speaking on Rhythm: The importance of SMART Goals & Celestine speaking on Rhythms: Breaking Free of Limiting Beliefs

D'Sean is a motivational speaker and entrepreneur who is passionate about helping people achieve their goals. She believes that the key to success is to have a clear vision and to set SMART goals.

SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. By setting SMART goals, you can break down your larger goals into smaller, more manageable steps. This will make your goals seem less daunting and help you stay on track.

D'Sean uses the analogy of rhythm to explain the importance of SMART goals. He says that rhythm is essential for any successful performance. When musicians play in rhythm, they are all working together to create a harmonious sound. Similarly, when we set SMART goals, we are all working together to achieve our desired outcome.

D'Sean offers the following tips for setting SMART goals:

Be specific. What exactly do you want to achieve? The more specific your goal is, the easier it will be to measure your progress and stay motivated.
Make your goal measurable. How will you know when you have achieved your goal? Set specific metrics that you can use to track your progress.
Make sure your goal is achievable. Don’t set yourself up for failure by setting unrealistic goals. Break down your larger goals into smaller, more manageable steps.
Make sure your goal is relevant. Make sure your goal is aligned with your overall goals and values.
Set a deadline for yourself. This will help you stay on track and motivated.
D'Sean believes that by setting SMART goals, we can all achieve our dreams and live our best lives.

Example of a SMART goal:
Specific: I want to lose 10 pounds in 3 months.
Measurable: I will track my weight every week.
Achievable: I will start by eating healthier and exercising for 30 minutes 3 times a week.
Relevant: Losing 10 pounds will help me improve my health and feel more confident.
Time-bound: I will lose 10 pounds in 3 months.

By following D'Sean’s tips, you can set SMART goals that will help you achieve your dreams and live your best life.

Celestine is a transformational speaker, who helps people break free of limiting beliefs and achieve their full potential. She believes that the key to success is to understand our own rhythms and to learn how to work with them.

Limiting beliefs are negative thoughts and beliefs about ourselves that hold us back from achieving our goals. They can be formed early in life from our experiences with parents, teachers, and peers. Limiting beliefs can be about our intelligence, our ability to succeed, or our worth as a person.

Celestine teaches that our rhythms are the natural patterns of energy that we experience throughout the day, week, month, and year. By understanding our own rhythms, we can learn how to use our energy more effectively and to avoid burnout.

Celestine offers the following tips for breaking free of limiting beliefs and living in alignment with our rhythms:

Identify your limiting beliefs. The first step to breaking free of limiting beliefs is to identify them. What are the negative thoughts and beliefs that you have about yourself? Once you have identified your limiting beliefs, you can start to challenge them.
Challenge your limiting beliefs. Ask yourself if there is any evidence to support your limiting beliefs. Are they based on facts or on fear? If your limiting beliefs are not based on facts, then you can start to let them go.
Replace your limiting beliefs with empowering beliefs. Once you have challenged your limiting beliefs, you can start to replace them with empowering beliefs. Empowering beliefs are positive thoughts and beliefs about yourself that will help you achieve your goals.
Live in alignment with your rhythms. When you live in alignment with your rhythms, you are using your energy in the most effective way possible. Pay attention to when you have the most energy and when you feel more tired. Schedule your most important tasks for the times when you have the most energy.
Take breaks. It is important to take breaks throughout the day, even if it is just for a few minutes. Getting up and moving around, or taking a few deep breaths, can help you to recharge and come back to your work with fresh eyes.
By following Celestine’s tips, you can break free of limiting beliefs and live your best life.

Example of how to challenge a limiting belief:
Limiting belief: I’m not smart enough to be a doctor.

Challenge: What evidence is there to support this belief? I have gotten good grades in my math and science classes. I have also volunteered at a local hospital and enjoyed the work.

New empowering belief: I am smart enough to be a doctor. I will work hard and achieve my goal.

By challenging your limiting beliefs and replacing them with empowering beliefs, you can open yourself up to new possibilities and achieve your goals.

Our global theme for November is RHYTHM. It was chosen by our Basel chapter and illustrated by Patrizia Stalder.

What rhythms set your pace? A celestial rhythm is pulsing all around us. The earth spins. The sun rises and sets. The moon pulls and releases the tides twice every day. The seasons loop each year. Natural, constant patterns of back-and-forth. But we also live amidst the unnatural rhythms of flickering fluorescent lights, pinging notifications, and vehicles idling at traffic signals. Rhythm can light you up or burn you out.

Rhythm is the heartbeat of creativity. It provides the structure we crave; a framework for ideas to take shape. By recognizing patterns and breaking them, we can find our unique voice.

Rhythm serves as a catalyst for the power of a dancer’s movement. The pacing of a poet’s sentences. The cadence of an actor’s voice. The timing of a comedian’s punchline. The strokes of a painter’s brush. The meter of a musician’s notes. All that creativity just keeps going and flowing. Rat-a-tat-tat. Tap into your own rhythm and follow wherever it takes you.

How do you keep your own beat? Listen to your breath. Listen to your heart.

Rhythm is a fundamental element of music, art, and design. It is the pattern of beats and rests that creates a sense of movement and flow. Rhythm can be simple or complex, regular or irregular, and it can be used to create a wide variety of effects.

There are many different ways to classify rhythm, but one common approach is to divide it into two main categories: metric rhythm and non-metric rhythm.

Metric rhythm is based on a regular beat pattern. The beats are grouped together into measures, and each measure has the same number of beats. This type of rhythm is often used in Western music, such as pop, rock, and classical.

Non-metric rhythm does not have a regular beat pattern. The beats may be grouped together in different ways, or they may occur at irregular intervals. This type of rhythm is often used in traditional music from around the world, such as African drumming and Japanese Noh theater.

Within these two main categories, there are many different types of rhythm. Some of the most common include:

  • Regular rhythm: This type of rhythm is characterized by a steady beat pattern. The beats are evenly spaced, and they occur at the same tempo. Regular rhythm is often used in dance music, such as disco and house.
  • Alternating rhythm: This type of rhythm is characterized by two or more different beat patterns that alternate with each other. For example, a song might have a verse with a 4/4 beat pattern and a chorus with a 6/8 beat pattern. Alternating rhythm can be used to create a sense of excitement and variety in a piece of music.
  • Syncopated rhythm: This type of rhythm is characterized by accents that fall on offbeats. This creates a sense of tension and release in the music. Syncopated rhythm is often used in jazz and blues music.
  • Polyrhythmic patterns: This type of rhythm involves playing two or more different rhythms simultaneously. This can create a complex and interesting sound. Polyrhythms are often used in African music and in the music of composers such as Steve Reich.

Rhythm is an important element of many other art forms as well, such as painting, sculpture, and dance. In art, rhythm can be created through the repetition of visual elements such as lines, shapes, and colors. In dance, rhythm is created through the movement of the body.

Examples of Rhythm in Different Art Forms

Here are some examples of how rhythm is used in different art forms:

  • Music: The rhythm of a piece of music is created by the pattern of beats and rests. The tempo, or speed of the beat, can also affect the overall rhythm of a piece of music.
  • Art: Rhythm can be created in art through the repetition of visual elements such as lines, shapes, and colors. For example, a painting might have a series of vertical lines that create a sense of rhythm.
  • Dance: The rhythm of a dance is created by the movement of the body. For example, a dancer might perform a series of steps in a regular pattern, or they might perform a series of steps in a syncopated rhythm.

Rhythm is a powerful tool that can be used to create a wide variety of effects in art. By understanding the different types of rhythm, artists can create more engaging and expressive works.
