Our speaker for January is Dr. William Murphy Jr.  A national genius who lives locally in the greater Miami area.  Born in 1923, Dr. William Murphy Jr. grew up the son of a Nobel prize winner and the first licensed female dentist in Massachusetts. His sister was the first licensed female aviatrix of large aircraft at the age of 15. At the age of 13, he invented the snowblower. He built his first car as a teen. A few decades later he invented the physiologic cardiac pacemaker!

A highly successful entrepreneur and inventor, the owner of 17 patents, a distinguished speaker and published author, Dr. Murphy founded Small Parts, Inc., Cordis Johnson & Johnson, served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hyperion, Inc., and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Bioheart, a cell technologies company.

Dr. Murphy is the recipient of a number of honors, including the prestigious Lemelson-MIT Lifetime Achievement Award, the MIT Corporate Leadership Award, the Distinguished Service Award from North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology and the Jay Malina Award from the Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County’s economic development arm.
