Before muddling the trajectory of the day with news, notifications, and requests, I meditate. For 20 minutes, joined only sonically by the ambivalently territorial rustlings of a neighborhood cat, the churning hum of early summer air conditioning, and the distant snore of a covertly dormant bum, I sit in my garden.

Here’s my morning routine. This guy. Zuko. Ironically, I’m not a morning person. I love to sleep in, love to lay in bed and read the news or just day dream about the coming day but this guy keeps me on schedule. He gets his morning meal and walk and there is NO WAY he’s going to let me forget that. Before my girlfriend and I adopted Zuko I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to handle the added responsibility of a dog on top of a crazy start-up schedule. Now I’m not too sure how I survived without him keeping me in check :)

I don’t do mornings - the last time I was out of bed in the am was my CreativeMornings talk - but my first piece of inspiration on most every day is a vault filled with books, each of which I’ve carried or dropped or judged by its cover at some point or another.

Location: The south wing of Bookleggers Library, a space closed to the public filled with books for the public.

I have started my morning the same way for the past 10+ years.  Shot of Illy espresso brewed in an old school Italian stovetop coffee maker.  Despite all the fancy new coffee machines and flavored capsule options out there, I think the classic espresso is still the best.

Hello Everyone my name is Andres and I created a men’s fitness and fashion blog based in Miami called Andres.Fitness. I’ve been writing for a little over a year now and I enjoy showcasing new and established gyms in the South Florida area. I also want to promote new and emerging active wear brands from around the world for men.

One thing South Florida is lacking, is a strong fitness community. You know of certain gyms or studios but don’t go or don’t follow thru with joining for many reasons and I want to prevent that. Professionals are available to help anyone of all fitness levels that wants to take their fitness and health to the next level. Both professionally with sports or personally by becoming fitter in their lives. That is why, I highlight new trainers and gyms. Promoting new styles of training. Giving the audience a view of what they can expect.

I have yet to find an athletic apparel line like Muscle Monkey’s. Their clothes fit like a glove and look great in and out of the gym. The cut to their shirts are made for those of use that go hard in the gym. Nothing ordinary here in fact their style is out of this world. Being able to wear something that is built for the athletic male and still stylish to go out in can be a challenge. Wearing Muscle Monkey’s tops and tanks come as no problem and always get looks from others. Be sure to check them out.

It’s easy to see professional fitness models change their bodies throughout their competitive year. So why can’t you see any change in your body? You don’t have to be a competitive body builder or a fitness professional to see real change. Tell me if any of these tips call out to you.

1) Missing meals or starving the body

Everyday I hear a story about some women saying I’m only eating 600 calories and doing an hour of cardio and I cant lose any weight. No shit. You are starving the body and it will refuse to let any fat go when starved.

2) You are doing too much cardio

If you want to get fit you need to lift. ESPECIALLY YOU WOMEN!! Lift, Lift, Lift. 70% of your efforts need to be with weights. Adding muscle increases metabolism and forces the body to burn more calories during the day. Cardio makes you soft and eats away at muscle.

3) You are not getting enough carbs

I see so many people especially competitors on this low and no carb diets doing 2 hours of cardio, only once they come off they find out their thyroids are shot and it can take years if ever to return to normalcy. If you are training daily your body needs fuel. Plain and simple. Eat healthy slow digesting carbs.

4) You simply are not working hard enough

If being fit was simple everyone would do it. Eating 5 healthy meals, doing some sets in the weight room and an hour of cardio does not guarantee you will receive the results you want. Life is all about return on investment. if you invest maximum effort into your studies, your job, finances or your body, you will get the desired payout in the end. Walking on a treadmill for an hour or getting on the stairmaster is not maximum investment.

5) You are doing the wrong type of cardio

Get your ass off the treadmill or elliptical. 20 mins of sprints or HIIT on the football field trumps walking and jogging on the treadmill for an hour all day.

6) Your lift can be fat burning as well

I know why so many people fail at lifting programs. They do a set, wait 3-4 minutes then do another. Boring Boring Boring. Yeah I would quit too. Shorten rest periods to a minute or less between sets. If you are not sweating 5 minutes in, you aren’t working hard enough!! Increase intensity!!!

7) You have a cheat day not a cheat meal

I guarantee the person that invented the term “cheat day” was a fat ass. Its “cheat meal” have a cheat meal once every 10-14 days and then get your ass in the gym and make it work for you!

8) Alcohol

This is the one thing you won’t quit? No shit. If you want to cut the fat, cut the booze!!! I guarantee if you went 30 days with no alcohol you would see and feel a dramatic difference!

For some, hitting a bag can really clear the mind and help work thru any mental road blocks they may be having. Classes range from traditional boxing to kickboxing / may thai, boot camp / cross training, anti-bullying / kids classes. Yoga is also offered at the studio as well as traditional free weights and gym area. What is especially cool about South Beach Boxing is they offer classes all day long.

Slowly but surely the choker trend is making it into everyone’s jewelry box this season. One of the things that I love about it, just like any other type of necklace, is the variety of styles to choose from; edgy to feminine, dainty to over-the-top and everything in between. This simple yet elegant one was a recent Baublebar purchase and have been secretly longing for the perfect outfit to pair it with. Its gold embellishment is what stood out to me, and the rest is history.  Can we proceed onto this oh so gorgeous skort, yes it’s actually a pair of pants! What a unique piece right?!

I wore this very flirty outfit to an event I hosted a few weeks ago in Wynwood; a very trendy, artsy and eclectic neighborhood near Downtown, Miami. The event took place outdoors so I knew I wanted to wear something light, casual and fun; hence why I opted for this ruffled beauty, and also because crop tops and high-waisted bottoms are the perfect pair because you can show off some skin without being too revealing! Now, onto these fun and comfy wedges that have been on constant rotation lately (I’ve linked affordable options here). They are a great addition to any outfit, who can say no to tassels, right?! (see how I styled them with a beautiful cold-shoulder dress here).

More stripes you say? #YesPlease! with a little dash of chambray and a lot of off the shoulder! I yet have to find someone who doesn’t love the off the shoulder trend, it is literally the only buzz on the street this season, well maybe not the only one, but definitely the most fun and flirty. The Miami weather, well, it’s hot to say the least. It sure feels less and less like spring and more and more like summer, so wearing something that’s comfortable, chic and fun is a must. Lately I have been choosing flowy dresses (like in this post or this one) simple tops and comfy shorts for my weekend wear, because a girl needs to survive the heat and humidity, you know what I am saying?
