We took off last month for the holidays but are back and ready to take on 2015; we hope you’re feeling refreshed too. January’s event will be Friday January 30th from 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM. The theme is “Ugly" and we can’t wait to share the news on the speaker and event details soon. Save the date!
Next Milwaukee speaker
Coming soon
Our next speaker, set for Friday, November 21st, is Anja Notanja Sieger, typewriter poet of La Prosette fame, Pfister Narrator-in-Residence, paper cut artist and performer. Anja will be talking on November’s theme “Chance.”

We asked Anja six questions to get to know her.Â
What do you typically eat for breakfast? There is no typical. But today I had turkey, kraut, green mung noodles, brussel sprouts, lard. Â
What do people know you for? Writing letters for them from their cats.
How is Milwaukee special to you? It has Lake Michigan in walking distance to the Central Library and the Oriental Theater.
What may people not know about you? I keep a moustache woven of my own hair in a tin just in case I want to dress up as Rocky Raccoon again. Â
What drives your creativity? Irrepressible instinct.
What are you going to talk to us about this month? How leaving room for the unknown is the most critical part of the creative process.

Video and photos from the September CreativeMornings with Reginald Baylor talking about “Color” are now live! We’ve been enjoying reliving the day.Â
Video of the talk by David Busse and Sam KozelÂ
Photography from the event by Ester Robards.
For those of you who missed the first CreativeMornings/Milwaukee event, weâre recapping it here.

Our September speaker was Reginald Baylor, speaking spontaneously about âColor.â He had some surprises for the audience, like when we asked him if all colors are equal. He answered an emphatic âNo! Grey is the most supreme of all the colors.â If you’ve seen his work, it’s not easy to understand why, but there is a hint in the notes below. Weâll post the video recap and photographs soon.Â
Most remarkable to the CreativeMornings/Milwaukee team, was the incredible show of support from the community. Tickets quickly sold-out before the event. Holey Moley teamed with Hawthorne Coffee and sent baristas to do pour over coffee. Community members brought their talents too.Â
Two notable examples:Â
Timothy J. Reynolds made these sweet sketch notes of the first ever CreativeMornings in Milwaukee. He captured the major themes and quotable moments from Baylor's talk with visual panache to boot. Thank you!

You can see more of his sketchnotes here.
Lisa Walker England shared her experiences during the event and posted some photos of people she met. We have a calligrapher in our creative community? So cool. Thanks, Lisa!

You can read more about creative life at Lisa’s blogÂ
Again we owe big thanks to the supportive groups who made the whole event possible: MKE Production Rental, Holey Moley Doughnuts + Coffee, The Box MKE, and Wellspring as well as the creatives who woke up early for the event! Thank you! Can’t wait for tomorrow!

The speaker for this Fridayâs event is Tarik Moody, music host at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee and mastermind behind the show Rhythm Lab Radio and the music mash-up series âUnlooped.â Tarik will be speaking on Octoberâs theme of âCrossover,â sharing his thoughts and experiences on life full of taking leaps, from living all around the country to switching from practicing architecture to hosting public radio. The event will be hosted at 88Nine Radio Milwaukee. Hereâs some insider insights chatting with Tarik.Â
