About the speaker

Allison Vick is a Raleigh-based pastry chef, mom of two kids, member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, and owner of two local businesses: Little Blue Macaron and Little Blue Bakehouse.

Allison graduated from NC State University in 2010 with dual degrees in Textile & Apparel Management and Spanish Language. After working a short stint at The Cupcake Shoppe of Raleigh, she moved to Austin TX to take a corporate job in the
field of International Education. She worked as a program manager for study abroad programs in Spain and Morocco for almost four years, before a good friend pushed her to pursue her pastry dreams and take a job in the Austin food industry.

Allison worked the graveyard shift with the Whole Foods pastry catering team for two years and learned so much from her mentor during that time. After leaving Whole Foods, worked in various restaurants in Austin, moving from Pastry Cook to Pastry
Sous, eventually to Executive Pastry Chef at Enoteca/Vespaio.

With the birth of their first child in 2018, Allison and her husband returned home to their friends and family in North Carolina. Not wanting to re-enter the restaurant industry, Allison decided to follow her passion for a specific pastry, and opened a small bakery business called Little Blue Macaron, specializing in unique flavors and designs for French macarons.

After years of working in a commercial kitchen and noting the desperate need for kitchen incubator space, she and her husband opened Little Blue Bakehouse in 2022, which serves as a community coffee shop and an incubator kitchen for small bakery businesses.

Allison serves as the secretary for Les Dames North Carolina chapter, is on the advisory board for the Baking Program at Wake Tech in Raleigh, NC, volunteers with the James Beard Foundation and Main Street Alliance on policy and advocacy work for chefs and small businesses, and is currently working with NC Alliance for Health on the School Meals for All NC endeavor.

Our global theme for March is Parallel.

Like train tracks receding into the distance, our lives eventually reach the end of the line. And for a large part of our journey, most people tend to live parallel lives. We go to school, hang out with friends, get jobs, and take care of our families.

Just look out the window at the home or office across the street. We exist side by side with strangers. Always keeping the same distance of anonymity between us – even though we have so much in common. All of us trying to build a better life for ourselves and our loved ones.

Of course, we are not carbon copies. The differences make our lives our own. Her black coffee. His energy drink. Their chamomile tea. So, we may never see eye to eye. After all, mathematics prove that parallel lines never meet.

But unlike those train tracks, our paths don’t run in straight lines. We can meet someone new at every turn. Look someone in the eye and smile. Reach across that gap between us and make a connection.

We may be living parallel lives. But we don’t have to go through them alone.
