Hong Kong Chapter kicks off with Andre Fu
About the speaker
Born in Hong Kong, Andre Fu left for education in the United Kingdom at the age of 14. He graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2000 and founded AFSO in the same year to create distinct projects. In 2004, he returned to Hong Kong. His boutique studio has since created a series of internationally-recognized works in sensuous and unique projects.
Fu's approach to interior architecture combines the rigorous pursuit of new Asian sensitivities, with clarity in space planning and keen attention to details of everyday life. His studio AFSO has applied its vision of design to the fundamental qualities of space, proportion, light and lush materials. Fu's emotional spaces are created to inspire and indulge.
Notable commissions include the Upper House Hotel in Hong Kong, L’Appartement installation for Louis Vuitton, the Fullerton Bay Hotel at Singapore's waterfront, and the Opus Suite at the Berkeley Hotel in London.
Subsequent projects have spanned a wide range of scales and typologies, from Lane Crawford Store's Shoe Library - one of the biggest shoe boutiques in the World, a bespoke handtufted rug collection with the legendary Tai Ping Carpets as well as the private residence of international actress Miss Michelle Yeoh. Fu has also collaborated with gallerists Emmanuel Perrotin and Ben Brown on their artspaces in Hong Kong.

Each project takes forever...imagine yourself dating someone for four years but it's not dating one person. You're dating 15 people at the same time and you have to give them personal attention. You can't tell them what the other person is about.
