Speaker’s Choice: Stress, Resilience + Matriarchy.

We virtually celebrate our 9th birthday by inviting members of our audience to take the mic. Our speakers could pick from any topic from the past year, settling on the themes of Stress, Resilience and Matriarchy.

First up is Kelly Dekker, a sports and performance psychologist, who tackles the topic of Stress alongside her alter-ego: her mind. She explores the idea that while our mind might have the best intentions, sometimes we need to ignore its overprotective advice.

And Sophie Janna, a Hilversum-based musician and composer, explores the theme of Resilience by describing her journey to accepting imperfection. “I kept trying to reach some perfect score,” she describes. “Even when a top mark didn’t exist.”

Finally, Nicola Cloherty explores the theme of Matriarchy. She shares learnings from her role coaching women in creativity, encouraging us to tap into our natural rhythms to find a more harmonious beat.

Musical guest Simoon strums our speakers to the stage in a live performance of her melancholic, but playful melodies, performed from her apartment.

About the speaker

Kelly Dekker, 38, lives in Amsterdam together with her boyfriend and one year old son. She believes every human will face highs and lows in their careers and lives. Especially when the stakes are high and goals are set, there will automatically be doubts, expectations, setbacks and successes.

As a sport and performance psychologist, Kelly is dedicated to lifting performances and lives of athletes, artists, creatives and other high performers. In her work she teaches them skills so that they are able to deal with difficult situations and circumstances, not only when it comes down to performing, but also in their daily lives. After all it goes without saying that we
humans are more than our achievements.

Sophie Janna (ter Schure) is a musician and composer based in Hilversum, the Netherlands. She obtained a PhD in linguistics in 2016, focusing on the intersection between psycholinguistics, phonetics and language acquisition. During and after her PhD, she lectured at various universities and worked as a coordinator at the national research institute for linguistics (LOT).

After several years of working in academia by day, making music by night, she became a full-time musician in early 2019. Now, she can use her sensitivity, creativity and organizational skills in writing new songs, organizing concerts and enchanting an audience.

Sophie has toured across the world with her duo The Lasses. She has released 6 albums so far, focusing on new arrangements of traditional songs from Ireland, Scotland and England. In the summer of 2021 she will release her first solo EP with original songs under the name Sophie Janna.

Nicola Cloherty coaches and mentors women to reconnect, remember and reclaim who they truly are in their life and business. Working with a woman’s innate womb wisdom, menstrual cycle & beautifully unique energetic blueprint via Human Design, she offers private coaching, courses and workshops.

She teaches women to tap into their innate creativity, reconnect inward, remember who they are and reclaim their power in accordance with their biology, unique energetic blueprint and ways to support themselves physically, energetically and spiritually.
