About the speaker
Welcome to mid-2021… we are well on our way towards July!
Before we say goodbye to the first part of this year, we get to stop... breathe out... and celebrate a very special month called June.
June holds in its hands the turning point of the seasons and presents us with the summer and winter solstices, the day with the fewest daylight hours and the beginning of the shift towards another 6-month chapter of our lives.
There are a variety of etymologies that speculate about where this most interesting month gets its name… but the one belief is that June was named after the Roman goddess Juno, the goddess of marriage and the protector and special counsellor of the state... we’ll take it, as we embark on exploring our global theme for this month - MATRIARCHY
Chosen by our splendid Dutch (Rotterdam) chapter community, we shine a light on females in leadership, from across the vast spectrum of identities and experiences of womanhood.
What would life look like if the systems and structures were re-envisioned and women held the majority of the positions of power and leadership? What would change? Without women, where would our world be?
Our speaker this month is an inspiring woman who at a very young age took the lead on transforming higher education in Africa. We are so excited to have Audrey Cheng, the founder, past CEO and current board member of Moringa School.
Audrey kick-started her career studying journalism in the United States of America and her writing led her to explore the cultures of India and Africa, where she identified an opportunity to make a difference.
She founded Moringa School and during her 7 years building a successful business, Audrey led a team of over 100 people to train over 4000 students in Kenya and Rwanda. Moringa School has helped individuals obtain job placement, raised $13M capital, launched 3 high-quality, proven courses and engaged with over 100 employers.
Moringa was selected as one of Fast Company’s Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Africa and Financial Times and IFC's "Finalist - Achievement in Sustainable Development, with a focus on Education, Knowledge and Skills". Moringa’s aim is to train over 200,000 knowledge workers through market-driven education by 2030.
For her work, she was selected as one of the Forbes 30 Under 30 Social Entrepreneurs, World Economic Forum's Top Female Innovators in Africa and named on the list of Marie Claire's "The Youngest Execs in the Country" list.
Recently, Audrey decided to take a step back and move onto the board of Moringa because of a passion for creating larger, systems-level change and supporting other entrepreneurs to grow successful businesses.
We look forward to Audrey sharing her insights of being a female leader in a foreign country as well as what role women play within our global society today.
Join us on 25 June 2021!
