In the midst of unfolding who I am: that is craft
Beatrice Ursula is âan artist to the extent that I happen to be one â like how a seed sprouts because of rain, or how branches sway because of the wind.â This free-flowing nature of Beatriceâs work and life path doesnât come without continuing struggle that many artists face in defining their craft. Many times oneâs craft cannot be summarized in a job title or easily explained. Overwhelmed by social media, Beatrice felt like she was constantly getting feedback about what to change, instead of being tapped into her being. Pulling away from spending so much time on her phone, she spent two months in the Philippines, her ancestral homeland. Upon her return to the Bay Area, Beatriceâs art practice emerged as she started doing multiple art shows while working as a freelance photographer and consultant, also while launching her brand. Despite finally achieving âsuccess,â what naturally followed was burnout. After being bedridden for a week, the quiet allowed Beatrice to reflect on herself as a being, an âantennaâ exchanging energy with everything. That itâs not just about the work that she puts out, itâs about coming from a centered place. Following the advice from her grandfather: âIf you want to be happy, plant a tree, make a home, and write a poem.â
