A Seacoast teen’s personal experience with microaggressions and the impact they had.

Microaggressions often go unnoticed when they appear in our everyday conversations and lives. These seemingly harmless remarks or actions that marginalize and belittle can have a great impact on individuals. Here, a 15 year old resident of the Seacoast shares a unique perspective about how she rose above these not-so-positive experiences by instead exploring how they can serve as catalysts for personal growth and building endurance.

About the speaker

A tenth grader at Phillips Exeter Academy, Bhumika Prem (she/her) immigrated to the United States when she was one year old. Bhumika is a visual artist who brings her passion for art to others, serving as regional director of the Back to Bach Project, a student-run organization dedicated to making music and arts education more accessible to schools. She also volunteers with ENGin, an organization that pairs Ukrainian youth with English speakers, and Girls Who Code, run by the Exeter Student Service Organization. In May 2023, she was a TEDx Portsmouth speaker. Bhumika is passionate about STEAM and believes that STEAM education will change the world.
