part of a series on Parallel

About the speaker

Chris is an art director, graphic designer, illustrator and artist whose work draws upon contemporary culture, queer themes, allegory, decorative arts and fashion.

Often switching back and forth between digital and analog methods throughout his process, Chris fuses hand-drawn and digitally-painted elements, photography, pattern design, printmaking and typographic techniques within his work—occasionally, all in a single piece. Over his 20 year career, he’s launched a wrapping paper brand, had his work onscreen in Times Square, and worked with brands like Aveda, Blu Dot, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Lemonada Media, LifeTime Fitness, Public Radio International, Rishi Tea & Botanicals and Target.

Our theme for March is PARALLEL. It was chosen by our Kuala Lumpur chapter in Malaysia and illustrated by OLI.

Like train tracks receding in the distance, our lives eventually hit the end of the line. Along the way, people tend to live parallel lives. Work. School. Eat. Sleep. Rinse and repeat. We exist side by side with strangers. Always keeping the same distance of anonymity between us.

But unlike those tracks, our paths don’t run in straight lines. We can meet someone new at every turn. We may be living parallel lives. But we don’t have to go through them alone.
