Claerwen spent the first half of her life feeling invisible and unheard.

It’s only recently that she feels like her life is coming together, that her struggles and hard work are coming to fruition. On this month’s theme of INVISIBLE, Claerwen will share her personal story of feeling invisible from a young age, and the event that triggered a change in outlook and a determination to seize the day. She will also share style tips that are practical, philosophical and playful, and an insight into her arts practice creating abstract sculptures as little self portraits.

About the speaker

Claerwen is a multi-disciplinary artist working with sculpture, photography and video. She is currently focused on sustainable sculpture, working with recycled materials, including cardboard clay, Banksia pods and gum nuts.

Claerwen also has a background in psychology and psychotherapy. Working with the NDIS she facilitates a weekly art group for people with mental illness, where she shares her passion for the therapeutic benefit of mindful painting and drawing.

On top of these creative pursuits, she has a busy domestic life with over 100 houseplants, 3 teenage boys, 2 Devon Rex cats, a dog and a husband she has been hanging out with for 26 years.

Claerwen turned 50 this year but feels like she is just getting started and is a late bloomer. She has a passion for street dance that she started learning 5 years ago, and has recently been modelling for a street wear fashion label. The icing on the cake professionally has been having her sculptures featured in 3 shoots for the Design Files this month and being represented by boutique Art agency Greenhouse Interiors. 15 years ago however, she was a stay at home mum struggling to manage 3 young children and felt like a failure.
