About this FieldTrip

Attendees will leave with tips, tricks and a workspace that will help them articulate their beliefs, and begin writing their manifestos.

My aspiration is for attendees to have a compass that will help them find their north star, so they can be more intentional with their design practice.

ABOUT YOUR CO-HOST: Jigyasa Tuli (she/her) is an interdisciplinary designer interested in building with communities that have been othered — for empowerment, solidarity and healing against oppressive systems. Her past experience includes using design to promote housing equity, neighborhood identities, re-thinking educational systems, civic engagement and technology. Currently, she designs product experiences for a neo-banking start-up in San Francisco, and is working on launching a publication about design & social impact called Rant & Riot. She is an active un-learner of the euro-centric viewpoint of design theory and practice, and believes in interrupting pre-disposed legacies by advocating for pluriversal lived experiences.

Agenda

  • The Fieldtrip will start with a 5 minute presentation of how we write manifestos, that will also outline how the workshop will take place.
  • We will begin with writing about our core beliefs. For example: "I believe that all humans deserve a dignified life"
  • We will then take that belief and list out and envision a world where that belief is a desired outcome. For example: "In a world where humans live with dignity, everyone will have access to a bathroom"
  • We will then take that statement and turn it into a tenet of a manifesto. For example: "Everyone should be able to poop peacefully in a clean space."
  • Participants will be given a mural / miro / figjam board with prompts.
  • We will reserve up to 15 minutes for shareback.

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And…” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
