About the speaker
Destinee Wright is a Virginia native and graduate of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor's in Women, Gender and Sexuality. Wright's work centers on marginalized voices, empowering local businesses, and building community. She is the owner and operator of two businesses in Charlottesville. Destinee Marketing, LLC (2018) creates social media strategies that connect small businesses with their communities with personable content that reveals the humans behind the brand. Her second business, Luxie Hair Services (2012), provides mobile hairstyling services to clients across Virginia.
In 2018, Destinee created an open-source, open-use index of local Black-owned businesses that has been tapped by the City of Charlottesville as an official resource for marketing, business information, and greater awareness of the Black-owned businesses that make Charlottesville thrive. This index and her brand are hubs of connectivity and exchange. She's partnered with The Fralin to create workshops for City-wide artistic and educational outreach, presented for UVA undergraduate classes, is a published writer and has consulted for various businesses and nonprofit programs. Her archival work with her Solidarity Cards Project has made local headlines and inroads in public and collaborative art.
