About the speaker

Dominic is the founder of Plastered 8, a creative brand known for its irreverent, pop-inspired artwork that started in Beijing and built a cult following through retail stores and collaborations. During this time, he also worked as a travel TV presenter, exploring stories and cultures across China. Now based in Hong Kong, he works as an artist alongside creating Flock, a public art project bringing large-scale bird murals to abandoned buildings across Lantau Island. The project has grown through community support, turning hidden spaces into something people actively seek out.

Additional details

This talk shares how Flock began by accident, starting with an outdoor art gallery set up in an abandoned pig sty on Lantau Island. A chance meeting with a UK mural artist led to the first bird mural, drawing people in to visit and share. That sparked the idea that abandoned buildings could become open-air canvases. Dominic will cover the realities behind the project—from painting on remote rooftops and standing waist-deep in bogs, to murals being painted over—alongside how he self-funded the first eight works and used crowdfunding to grow a project that now draws people across Hong Kong.
