About the speaker
Selected as "Entrepreneurship Professor of the Year" and AmericanInno's "50 on Fire," Dr. Patrick Murphy, a veteran of the US Navy, currently serves as the Goodrich Endowed Chair for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and a professor in the Collat School of Business at UAB. He also provides support, mentoring, coaching, and network connections to on-site entrepreneurs and teams as the professor in residence for Innovation Depot in Downtown Birmingham. Dr. Murphy is passionate about his areas of research: entrepreneurial growth, history, and social enterprise. He has published several scholarly articles featured in outlets such as the Harvard Business Review and authored a book in 2013- "Mutiny and Its Bounty: Leadership Lessons from the Age of Discovery"- published by Yale University Press. Dr. Murphy is Editor of the scholarly journal Management Decision, and his 2006 paper, "A conceptual history of entrepreneurial thought," is one of Emerald Publisher's most cited papers, named by Emerald in 2017 as one of the publisher's top 50 highest-impact research papers in the last 50 years.
