I am my ancestors’ wildest dreams! This is not a, whoa it’s me talk, and have pity for the first generation college student who overcame, ‘cause I don’t have time for deficit-based thinking, the myth of black exceptionalism, or sympathy!

About the speaker

Tiece M. Ruffin is a native of Washington, D.C. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Special Education and cognate in Reading Education. Professionally, she is a veteran teacher educator and defender of human rights as an education justice advocate, consultant, and freedom fighter working to dismantle oppressive and structurally inequitable education systems. Further, she is a U.S. Fulbright Scholar, Mother-scholar, and associate professor of Africana Studies & Education at The University of North Carolina Asheville.
