Elise and friends discuss Columbia’s traffic box art program
About the speaker
Elise Buchheit is the Programs Specialist for Columbia's Office of Cultural Affairs. She oversees and plans a wide variety of art events for Columbia, but relevant to this month's transit theme, Elise organizes the Traffic Box Art Program. This program unifies art and infrastructure within Columbia's downtown to provide a diverse streetscape and unique experience for all visitors. The Traffic Box Program is one of many that contribute to Columibia's eclectic community. In 2007, Columbia was named Missouri’s first Creative Community by the Missouri Arts Council. This prestigious award recognizes that Columbia’s thriving arts industry has a proven economic impact on the community in the areas of business and tourism. Elise advocates for the benefits of public art within Columbia and ensures the city maintains a yearly budget for each activity, festival, and installation.
