Aven and Erin talk about how facing their fears changed their life
Aven and Erin Pitts joined us on October 27 to talk about their relationship with Halloween Horror Nights.
About the speaker
Aven and Erin’s paths crossed in 2015 during Universal's Halloween Horror Nights 25th anniversary year.
In 2010 Aven set out from a small town in the panhandle to attend UCF, primarily because it was close to Universal Studios. While earning a marketing degree, he worked as a performer with Universal doing various roles in parades, shows, and events. It was there that he found his home away from home, and it was there that he set out to become a filmmaker. In 2007 he caught the eye of some very important people after releasing a social media video, showcasing some of the highlights of that year's Halloween Horror Nights event. As a result, Aven was offered a job as the first ever Social Media Video Producer for Universal Orlando, a new role created just for him.
After graduating with a theatre degree from UNC-Wilmington, Erin spent several years living in London, England, only visiting family in Florida for short periods of time. In 2006, she found herself auditioning in Orlando for a role as a ‘scare actor’ in Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, an event that at the time she knew nothing about. For six weeks that spooky season, she lived with a friend and had her first experience with an event that would shape her as a performer. In 2007 she returned to the event a full time Floridian, cast as a maniacal clown in an experimental show called The Carnival of Carnage.
Aven would eventually expand beyond social media where he served as a Director and Cinematographer with Universals in-house production team, Popcorn. For the next 6 years he would contribute to the creation of countless videos, commercials, HHN reveals, documentaries and other content. As of January 2023, he decided to take the leap and transition out of his position with Universal, and into the freelance world as the Director/DP of Good Ghost Films.
Erin continues her work on screen and stage, keeping her toe dipped in the Universal pool. The character she helped cultivate all those years ago would eventually become an HHN icon, appearing in multiple event years.
Although they are bound by marriage, perhaps it is their love for the spooky season that truly binds them.
