Antiracism Discussion Series: Ava DuVernay’s “When They See Us”

Your Home or Office

Additional details

When They See Us, a mini-series developed and directed by Ava DuVernay, tells the story of the (now) “Exonerated Five,” the five seventh-and eight-graders wrongfully convicted of a rape in Central Park in 1989.

In this 5-week discussion group, we’ll use the curriculum developed by DuVernay and offered through Array 101 to explore how the systemic bias of the media and the criminal justice system led to their convictions.

The first four weeks will consist of a watch party and a discussion group; the fifth week will include a debrief and (possibly) optional project presentations.

Because of the nature of these conversations, we expect trust and openness to build across the series; thus, we ask that you plan to attend all events, rather than cycling in and out.

All sessions will be held from 7-9 pm on these Thursdays: 16-Jul, 23-Jul, 30-Jul, 6-Aug, 13-Aug
