Ana Stretcu speaks on connecting to your culture
About the speaker
After trying to do the grown-up thing and live "a serious life", I'm now fully committed to embracing the cute, the wholesome, the goofy and last but not least, the silly things in life because I believe they're a source of infinite joy and I draw because I want to share that with as many people as I can.
I believe stereotypes are harmful and stupid, so I'll jump at the opportunity to flip them like pancakes.
I believe the fact that we're all different is what makes life interesting and amazing and I want to capture that in my work.
I believe every child should be able to see characters that look like them in the books they enjoy, which is why I strive to make my illustrations more and more inclusive.
I believe in the power of stories and how they can make the world a better place. And that's exactly why I'm a children's book illustrator, because I get to tell better stories to the most receptive audience you could wish for. And this is how I feel I play my small part in making the world a better place.
