Ginger White Brunetti talks about how Culture and Color relate and Denver’s Imagine 2020 cultural plan.
“Culture" is the color of our society. Culture is context and shared values, aspirations and conversations in manifest. It helps to create meaning, distinction and authenticity; and helps us make meaning out of the way we interact with each other and with our city. Denver’s new cultural plan, IMAGINE 2020, is a roadmap for cultural development. The framework of the cultural plan – the seven vision elements – guides us by providing ways to build upon Denver’s vibrant foundation and further enhance our community. In the same way that visual designers are conscious about choosing visual color and composers about choosing auditory color in tones and voices, people in Denver are trying to be intentional about the way we color our cultural society. IMAGINE 2020 drew upon our communities’ culture of inclusiveness, collaboration, vision, pragmatism and creativity for formulation, and it will require these same cultural traits to be implemented successfully.
