Gino Castillo discusses his path of healing through sound energy
About the speaker
Gino Castillo is an Ecuadorian singer, percussionist, songwriter, and producer based in Charleston, South Carolina. For more than 24 years, his music has grown out of a deep connection to Afro-Cuban rhythm, Latin jazz, and salsa, shaped by a life spent moving between cultures, traditions, and collaborations.
A bandleader by nature, Gino leads his own projects while also building musical communities through The Cuban Cowboys and Buena Vista Legacy Band. His work reflects a balance of tradition and curiosity, honoring classic Latin sounds while reimagining them through his own voice as a vocalist, arranger, and producer.
His albums tell the story of that journey, from Cuban-influenced Latin jazz to contemporary salsa. In 2025, he will release his full catalog worldwide, including Corazón Kamikaze, a salsa album recorded with leading Cuban musicians, and Volviendo a Nacer, a project revisiting iconic Ecuadorian pop songs in collaboration with their original artists.
In recent years, Gino has also explored sound and energy healing, studying the use of rhythm and voice as tools for connection and transformation, a practice that continues to influence both his music and his life.
