About the speaker
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Giovannie Dixon is a Jamaican American multi-disciplinary artist & muralist. He is a self-taught artist who began his career by exploring spray paint in the streets of Phoenix. As a practicing artist for five years, he has expanded into public art projects, large-scale commercial, and residential mural projects throughout the US.
His artwork resonates with the pulse and energy of urban life, capturing the essence of the streets and their diverse cultures. Moreover, he celebrates and explores the richness of black culture, infusing his creations with symbols, themes, and iconography that reflect the heritage and experiences of the African diaspora. His compositions speak to his personal journey as an athlete turned artist, bridging the gap between the worlds of sports and art. Through his work, he aims to forge connections, provoke thought, and inspire others to pursue their passions fearlessly.
