What are Clubs?
CreativeMorning Clubs are community-led, hyper-local, intimate gatherings around something you love.
Clubs can be recurring or drop-in and can range from hobbies and hang-outs, to skill-building and anything in between.
GRB CRAWL: A Local-Global Food Tour
• – • Astoria, 11103
About this Club
THIS MONTH - Astoria Part 2, featuring: Morocco, Bosnia, Brazil, & Cyprus!
New York City has one of the most diverse palates in the world, cultivated by the hundreds of immigrant communities cooking up the food they call home.
This club will center around attempting to check off as many international cuisines as possible without leaving the five boroughs - think The Queens Night Market, but on the move!
In the spirit of a food tour with the laid back feel of Sunday brunch, we gather to socialize and share new culinary experiences. From Flushing to Harlem to Bay Ridge, we will be discovering favorites living right under our noses (which is critical, because you need your nose for flavor).
And if you’ve got a personal favorite, or are a part of one of these communities, let us know where we should be going!
✨WHAT TO EXPECT
✔️ Folks can expect to convene at a meeting place in one of the many neighborhoods across the five boroughs.✔️ I will have planned out two to three budget-friendly counter service or quick service restaurants within walking or bus distance which will showcase a variety of international cuisines.
✔️ Attendees are not required to partake in every offering, and I will always be purchasing a communal highlight dish for folks to try.
✔️ Then, the final location will be an additional sit-down establishment where folks can continue to chat and dine.
✔️ Join at any point in the tour, though we usually will wrap the counter service locations quicker than the seated ones.
✔️ Seating availability will depend on the individual restaurants, but I will do my utmost to prepare the route, seating, and trek out to the neighborhood with as much accessibility as I can.
✔️ RE: Allergies & Dietary I cannot always anticipate who might be joining, thus I may pick the locations without this in mind; I absolutely can communicate any anticipated ingredients and contact restaurants ahead of time if I know you are attending! Also happy to do a gluten-free or vegan edition at some point if there’s interest.
🎒WHAT TO KNOW OR BRING
✔️ You can come just as you are, but if you want the full experience I would suggest planning to spend an amount comfortable to you on dishes you’d like to try.✔️ Reusable water bottles are also a great idea, and we *will* be out and about in all four seasons!
🍿 BYO SNACKS
We keep Clubs as free as possible to make sure anyone can attend. YAY! And… as a result, club hosts are carrying a lot of the financial weight of something like SNACKS. We know that snacks make any gathering so much fun… so we’re trying something new.👋 If you’re a snack fan, and you’d like to contribute, please bring a snack to share with your fellow Club goers. Nothing fancy. Just something that delights you. That’s it. See you there!
⏰ CLUB START TIME
We offer a 10-minute “Window of Arrival” time where you can get settled, share snacks, sign in, and chat with one another.👉 For example…If your Club start time is 1:00pm Expect to get things going around 1:10pm.
👉 We offer this flex window because we know folks are coming from many different places around town. With that said, please try your best to arrive before 10 minutes past the start time as the activities will be getting started then!
ABOUT YOUR HOST
After moving to the city right at the sprouting of my adventurous eating phase, and after a decade of being barraged with foodie content, on my 30th birthday I took matters into my own hands by planning a food crawl from Astoria to Sunnyside. I had never actually walked half the neighborhoods included, and along the way we found so much to love in this city beyond the food.
This sprouted an annual tradition on New Year’s Day three years running, always in a new spot, always looking for new national dishes to add to my brain-soup (and sometimes my actual soup). Since experiencing how great the CreativeMornings community can be, I wanted to get the nibblers together to try and fill out that international punch card together!
