Make Believe in Empathy
Watch the talk
We are in an era where empathy is hugely important.
If you make-believe, you’re constantly working the muscle in your brain to see the world from other people’s eyes.
The thing about infinite game that turns me on, that makes me happy, that makes me have fun is collaboration.
Whenever I want to solve a problem, the first thing I do is, I go: ‘Imagination on.’ Like a superpower. I just visualize and try to put myself in the moment, and then solutions come to me.
Maintain your collaborative skills—which you’ve been socialized to have, and develop your make-believe skills—which you’ve been socialized to give up, and then you can have the best of both worlds.
Fun kills fear.
I believe the primary benefit to make-believe, the one that we can apply in all walks of life, is it trains you for empathy.
Never judge what you're doing in the play. Just play, and then later talk about how it worked.
