Scrollytelling is a powerful visual storytelling technique used on the Web and based on a simple concept: new content appears or changes through transitions as users scroll down or up the web page. That’s basically it? No, there is more to tell.

Almost exactly one year ago, in mid-May 2019, more than 850 people climbed the highest point on earth, Mount Everest, within just a few days. In one day alone, 350 people reached the summit. 11 mountaineers were tragically killed at that time. Jan Schwochow uses Visual Scrollytelling to show how the accident happened and introduces a new kind of tool that he and his colleagues developed on their own initiative, opening up completely new possibilities for visual storytellers.

About the speaker

Jan Schwochow, an infographic specialist and journalist since 28 years, was the art director of Stern magazine’s infographics unit and today is the founder of the Infographics Group, which has received numerous awards. He’s the author of the bestsellers “DEUTSCHLAND VERSTEHEN” and “The Global Economy as You’ve Never Seen It”.
