Jason Hanson

Jason Hanson is the chief creative officer and director of interpretation and research at History Colorado. He's the author of numerous articles, several books, and some great Linkedin musings tied to the rich history of the Centennial State.

We invite Jason to the stage this month, on Friday, February 11th, 2022, to explore the worldwide theme of "Monumental," chosen by our Richmond chapter.

Our elders built monuments to commemorate and honor people, events, and movements. Monuments seem to be such a significant component of every culture. Human-made structures to honor and celebrate or to memorialize and remember. Today we erect monuments with similar intentions and perhaps in different ways. Some historic monuments seem to have new interpretations or significance, while other new monuments come about to depict and signal the values and the culture of the times. In this gathering, we learn about a unique monument - in the form of a statue - to the state of Colorado, the story of its recent relevance, and the way it found a home in the History Colorado Center.

What is there to learn about the past, the present, and the future, and each other, within Jason's talk about monuments? How do monuments showcase the creative spirit of humanity? If we are the elders to future generations, what stories and what values do we want to leave behind in memorium?
