Through the presentation and discussion of imaginative inclusion-building programs, inspiring ideas to increase engagement, and important steps towards full accessibility employed by arts organizations, educators and communicators internationally, nationally and locally, we will endeavor to create a practical tool box of ideas and skills that can be employed by artists, communicators, storytellers, non-profits, organizations, creative businesses and more. We will look at examples from national organizations to local individuals who have made a difference in celebrating diversity and welcoming all.
About the speaker
Jill Henderson is Head of Marketing and Communications at Esker Foundation in Calgary, previously she worked at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver where she held the post of Marketing and Communications Manager for nine years. Previous positions include working for leading international non-profit art organizations and artists for over twenty years in the roles of communications, marketing, and education. She is also a producer at art and artist focused video storytellers AvidEye Productions, Calgary. Henderson was co-founder of The Drawing Salon, a traveling program of drawing workshops led by artists, and co-founder of Free Parking, an artist-run gallery project in downtown Toronto, a board member of Mercer Union, as well as curator of several independent exhibitions and projects.
Henderson graduated from Glasgow School of Art, Scotland with a Masters in Fine Art in 1993 and a BFA in 1991. International exhibitions of her art work and curatorial projects have been held at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), London; The Power Plant, Toronto; Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), Toronto; Transmission Gallery, Glasgow; Art Metropole, Toronto; Museum of Modern Art (MoMA PS1), New York; Lothringer13 Halle, Munich; Manif d’art 2, Quebec City; The Americas Society, New York; The New Gallery, Calgary, and Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver, among many more.
