About the speaker
John is the Founder and Creative Director of This Humid House. He is a trained architect and a graduate of the Cooper Union in New York City and has practiced in New York, Tokyo and Beijing. He returned to Singapore in 2015 and founded botanical design studio, This Humid House, shortly after.
He leads a team of designers in developing a language expressed through plants and flowers that is sensitive to the local climate and culture. The studio's output ranges in scale from the very small (a boutonniere) to the very large (the design of a park) with an emphasis on creating products and experiences with emotional resonance and a sense of place. This Humid House is committed to championing the entire spectrum of plant life that Singapore's climate is able to sustain with a particular affection for the unusual, the unruly and the uncultivated.
