About the speaker
I am a freelance journalist and writer based in Berlin since early 2020, focusing on feature writing and investigative journalism, mainly about Europe. As of September 2024, I am publishing every week a new chapter of "The Guide to Corporate Influence in Europe" (https://josemcalatayud.net/the-guide). I am developing an investigative methodology and toolset that I call “Follow the Governance”. And I'm also researching creative and alternative ways to disseminate the results of journalistic investigations.
I also give talks and organise and runs workshops and masterclasses — in English, Spanish and French — on collaborative and investigative journalism. From 2019 to 2022, I worked with Arena for Journalism in Europe, which promotes cross-border investigative journalism and organises the Dataharvest conference. I have reported from more than 20 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. And before moving to Berlin, I was successively based in Paris, London, Nairobi, Istanbul and Barcelona.
