How can we better support artist-mothers in the early years of parenting?
About the speaker
Julia Trotta is an art consultant based in New York who has worked closely with artists, galleries, non-profits and collectors for over 15 years. She has curated a number of exhibitions, both in the United States and abroad, and in 2024 co-founded Artists & Mothers, a non-profit organization providing childcare grants to artists. Trotta also made a film on her late grandmother, the art historian Linda Nochlin, and is currently the director of Nochlin’s estate.
Maria De Victoria is a filmmaker and performance artist and co-founded Artists & Mothers in 2024. She was born in Lima, Peru, and immigrated to Miami in the early ’90s. Her work, which critiques politics and comments on the marginalised, primarily revolves around her own experiences of immigration, migration, and cultural differences. Through this personal lens and using conceptual projects and performances that often directly involve the audience, she addresses larger themes of migration, labor, and the conditions of contemporary art. She currently lives and works in New York City.
