SALT at Our Kakaako

part of a series on کورسو | (Koor·Soo) | A faint glimmer of hope

About the speaker

Kamaka Dias is a Native-Hawaiian, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese local boy from the Big Island of Hawai’i.
He grew up in Hilo speaking Hawaiian as his first language while attending Hawaiian Language Immersion schools all his life until moving to Kaiser High School on O’ahu for his senior year. Before leaving for Madagascar to volunteer in the Peace Corps for three years, Kamaka attended the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa and graduated with a B.A. in Communications and a certificate in Spanish.

After returning home from the Peace Corps in 2019, Kamaka started a campaign called The Race To $50k where he documented himself paying off $53,757 of student loans in one year by doing all kinds of odd jobs.
Currently he is the Director of Outreach and host for Hawaiiverse, an online platform he helped create to support local businesses, and of course our host for the Keep it Aloha Podcast.

Moses Goods is a Native Hawaiian actor, playwright, and storyteller from the island of Maui, now based in Honolulu. He plays Moku, an advisor to the future King Kamehameha I, in the Apple TV+ series Chief of War, and is known for screen roles in projects such as NCIS: Hawaiʻi, Rescue: HI-Surf, Inhumans, and the award‑winning film Hae Hawaiʻi. One of Hawaiʻi’s most prominent theatre artists, he has toured his original work internationally and wrote the acclaimed one‑man show Duke about legendary surfer and Olympic gold medalist Duke Kahanamoku.

Hawaiʻi comedian Pashyn Santos is a Native Hawaiian actress, writer, and social media creator known for her sharp, local-style humor and viral characters like “Pidgin Siri” and “Local Maddah.” Born and raised between Waiʻanae and Kahuku, she started out making six-second sketches on Vine and grew into one of Hawaiʻi’s most-followed online personalities, with large audiences on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube. A Kahuku High graduate and former Polynesian Cultural Center dancer and Hawaiian Airlines flight attendant, she now works full time in entertainment, appearing in commercials, local films, and as player 368 on Netflix’s “Squid Game: The Challenge,” while also authoring children’s books that celebrate local life. Through her comedy rooted in everyday local experiences and pidgin, Santos aims to put Hawaiʻi on the map while uplifting other island creatives alongside her.
