Why we’re all more than the label someone once gave us.

“Are you sure you want to know who I am?” asked Kevin Groen as he took the stage to speak candidly (and rhythmically) about his personal experiences with inclusivity. Groen, a behavioral change expert by day and spoken word artist by night, explored the idea that while we’re all defined by our skin, the reality of the human experience is much more complicated. His talk also dived into the underlying issues of inclusivity, explained why we all need to stop assuming expertise and instead acknowledge ignorance, challenge our privileges, nurture curiosity and listen, listen, listen.

About the speaker

Kevin Groen is a behavioural change enthusiast and spoken word artist who doesn’t shy away from exploring the uncomfortable. As an adopted South-Korean boy ‘identity’ has always been an important theme throughout his life, but it took years before he discovered the words that would give meaning to his experience. Today he makes a living from kicking people’s butts so they turn their good intentions into real behavioural change, and uses his voice to confront audiences with prejudices and unconscious biases you didn’t even know you had.
