About the speaker

Welcome Lauren Hom to the CUNY Graduate Center’s Stage!
Lauren Hom is a designer, lettering artist, muralist, and chef. An "artist with a business brain", she picked up hand lettering as a hobby while studying advertising in college. That hobby grew into a passion and, over the next few years, she leveraged a few clever passion projects into a thriving design business thanks to the power of the internet.
Known for her bright color palettes, playful letterforms, and quirky copywriting, Lauren has created work for clients like Vans, Target, Google, and Adobe. She loves sharing her knowledge with others through her blog, online courses, and in-person workshops
When she's not furiously working to meet a deadline, you can find her learning how to make her favorite foods from scratch or dreaming up her next passion project.
Lauren’s motto is, and will always be, “Work hard, snack often.” After almost a decade in the design industry, she realizes that working hard all the time isn't sustainable, but she got it tattooed on her forearms when she was 23, so it will always be her motto and she's fine with it. She just reminds herself and others to take more breaks now.
In 2023, Lauren attended culinary school to expand her creative skill set and explore the intersection of graphic arts and culinary arts. She’s currently taking on a range of creative projects that combine her expertise in lettering, food styling, murals, teaching, and more, as well as hosting occasional pop-up dinner parties.
🎵 Performance by Rosetooth

Rosetooth is a Brooklyn rock band formed in 2024. Most often, you'll find the full line up in a local NYC venue blending the edge of grunge and the atmospheric layers of shoegaze to create their heavy sound.

After following Lauren for years (maybe 2016?!) it was so refreshing for her to speak about her journey, the ups and downs, and where she is now. Thank you Lauren - your work inspired a lot of my own creative career!
