Louis + Marsha have collaborated on a number of projects, all of which have pushed the boundaries of their creative and professional experiences. They set about building their modestly scaled, environmentally sustainable home in the Historic Oakwood neighborhood of Raleigh in 2013, which propelled them into the center of an unexpected controversy about historic preservation that was discussed in the pages of Vanity Fair and The New York Times. In February 2016 they mounted (with three other partners) an interactive multimedia and performance piece at Flanders Gallery, “Public Displays." They are currently at work on a documentary, “Rendered Small,” about an intriguing collection of American folk art buildings in Hillsborough, NC.

Louis Cherry

Louis Cherry has been practicing architecture in North Carolina since 1983. Trained in literature (Duke University), art (East Carolina University), and architecture (North Carolina State University), Louis was elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) in 2009 and is accredited as a LEED design professional (Leadership in Environmental and Energy Efficient Design). Louis has served on the Board of Trustees for the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh, and was a founder of the Moore Square Museum Magnet Middle School community garden. Louis has periodically taught design studios and professional practice in the NCSU College of Design for over 20 years. Louis Cherry Architecture is a small design practice focusing on modern residential, commercial and institutional design.

Dr. Marsha Gordon

Dr. Marsha Gordon is Associate Professor of Film Studies at North Carolina State University, where she has taught film history for fourteen years. She is the author of Hollywood Ambitions: Celebrity in the Movie Age, co-editor of Learning with the Lights Off: A Reader in Educational Film, and the forthcoming“Film is Like a Battleground”: Sam Fuller’s War Movies (which will be published by Oxford University Press later this year). Marsha is a co-founder of Home Movie Day Raleigh and has a monthly radio show, “Movies on the Radio,” with Frank Stasio and Laura Boyes, which airs on WUNC’s The State of Things.
