“So the bartender asked him name and he hesitates and he says, "John Smith.” And the bartender says, “We’ve got more than a dozen of them already. Pick something else.” He hands him an alias jar…“

FOLKLORE: The universe is vast and full of mysteries. Humankind spin stories to answer these mysteries without answers. As these stories are passed down and among a people, they become folklore. Who placed the stars up there? When a pot breaks, who might have been the unseen culprit? How do we celebrate the successes we can’t take credit for? Folklore exercises our mythic imagination, our way of seeing beyond the tangible to make sense of the enigmatic and the unfathomable. Our Guatemala City chapter chose this month’s exploration of Folklore and Sara Ortega illustrated the theme.

About the speaker

What is the folklore of the place we find ourselves in – here in the west, zeroing in on the state of Colorado? What is unique about folklore that brings us together, and even becomes our heritage? What does our Colorado folklore tell us about who we are today? And what if today, and the life we are living, is tomorrow's folklore? If so, what legends are we creating and witnessing?

For March, across the worldwide CreativeMornings community, we explore the theme of ā€œFOLKLORE,ā€ and for the Denver chapter we invite Margaret Schnipper to the stage.

Margaret is the founder & creative director of a mountain-inspired accessories and clothing brand called Trapper of Colorado, which she created as a way to stylishly embrace our Colorado heritage. Margaret is also a senior level copywriter, and a veteran of the film industry in both NYC and LA, working primarily on ad campaigns for broadcast. She does nearly all of the photography and video for Trapper of Colorado, as well as for private clients. Margaret’s favorite place to be is on skis.
