Marianne Brown compares the paths we map for ourselves, to those that choose us

About the speaker

This month’s CreativeMornings theme is Camino - way, path, pilgrimage.

It’s about journeys we choose, and the ones that choose us.

Marianne will talk about her book The Shetland Way, which combines memoir and environmental journalism to explore the story behind one of the country's biggest onshore wind farms. Returning to Britain’s most northerly islands after her father’s death, she finds a community divided.

What follows is a journey of twists and turns - a process of creative inquiry - unpicking how climate crisis is reshaping our relationship with land, place, and belonging.

Raised in Edinburgh, Marianne spent years reporting from Southeast Asia before editing an environmental magazine in the UK. She now works with Bristol Energy Cooperative, advocating for community-owned energy and local power.

This is a Camino shaped by climate, community, and coming home.
