Matylda Krzykowski on PARALLEL

CIVIC

part of a series on Parallel

About the speaker

Parallel – our topic in March!

In this session, held by our wonderful speaker Matylda Krzykowski and in collaboration with CIVIC and the HGK Basel, we’ll explore the idea of parallel lives and the power of coexistence and collaboration within shared spaces.

The theme Parallel encourages us to reflect on how different perspectives, disciplines, and practices can run side by side, influencing and enriching one another without necessarily intersecting. Much like parallel lines that never meet, this theme encourages the exploration of distinct, yet interconnected, concepts, fostering a dialogue between contrast and similarity. It challenges us to think about parallel narratives in art, design, and society, and how these separate paths can coexist, reflect, and inform one another within the public realm.

In the context of CIVIC, Parallel becomes a space for both experimentation and education, where ideas and creative approaches come together to foster community engagement. It's a reminder that, although we may live parallel lives – following our own unique journeys – we are not alone. We share more in common than we often realize, even with those we may never meet.

Come for the inspiration, stay for the connections! Whether you're a designer, artist, or curious mind, this event promises to spark new ways of thinking and engaging with the world around you.

We can’t wait to see you at HGK Civic!

Our Speaker:

Matylda Krzykowski directs, designs, writes, and talks about objects within space and ideas outside of space. Her transdisciplinary, geographically mobile practice resonates worldwide in the forms of exhibitions, installations, talks, texts, performances and exhibits.
In her role as artistic lead of CIVIC at Basel Academy of Art & Design Matylda Krzykowski provides an educational and experimental environment with opportunities for participation, contribution, and exchange to promote an understanding of the relevance of art and design today.

Our Location:

CIVIC at Basel Academy of Art and Design (HGK) is led by Matylda Krzykowski (Artistic Lead) and Anita Muçolli (Project Lead). CIVIC is a social infrastructure, and an educational and experimental place, for students, teachers and the public.
The initiative, launched in January 2022, is located at the ground floor of the high-rise tower at Dreispitz, Basel and aims to combine education and experimentation with a social focus. CIVIC offers space for events and projects that deal with social and cultural issues. These formats include gatherings, exhibitions, workshops, and discussions aimed at promoting community and fostering collaboration. The design of the 400m2 space is flexible and adaptable to enable various activities, such as participatory art projects and educational programs that offer learning and exchange opportunities. CIVIC thus serves as a place of encounter and exchange.
