Additional details
Hi Spokane creatives! We’re back for CreativeMornings Spokane, and this month’s global theme is CAMINO, chosen by our Oviedo chapter in Asturias, Spain.
Date: Friday, February 27 Time: 8:30–10:00am Location: KSPS PBS | 3911 S Regal St. Speaker: Mel Antuna Hewitt
➥ T H E M E: Camino (Kah-Mee-Noh) is a Spanish word meaning “path” or “way.” Inspired by the centuries-old pilgrimage of the Camino de Santiago, a symbol of journey, discovery, and transformation. This theme asks: what path are you on? You don’t have to know exactly where it leads. Move your body, take a step, trust the way. And wherever you are headed, buen camino. May you have a safe and meaningful journey.
➥ S P E A K E R: Mel Antuna Hewitt is a German Mexican-American book artist based in Spokane Valley, WA, on a mission to reenchant the world with books. Through sculptural artist books, printmaking, and finely bound leather tomes, Mel bends the traditional view of what a book can be; creating one-of-a-kind experiences that can hang on a wall, sit on a pedestal, and still turn a page. She teaches at Eastern Washington University, where she launched the region’s first university-level bookbinding and book arts course, and co-founded the Inland Northwest Book Arts Society. Her current work explores the many ways humans have communicated across time: Morse code, semaphores, pictograms– asking what happens when a book speaks in a language beyond words.
➥ D E E T S: We are gathering at KSPS PBS this month for a morning of art, books, and creative conversation. Come enjoy a warm creative community, breakfast and a talk.
➥ R E M I N D E R S: This event is free and open to everyone (artists, makers, students, entrepreneurs, dreamers, and curious minds). Free parking is available at Ferris High School and on the other side of the baseball field– just a 2 minute walk to the venue. ADA and close parking is available for those who need it.
Bring a friend and come early. Seating is limited! Come ready to explore your own camino.
