Post-production specialist & 1410th Digital Films co-founder Tongai Furusa shares how the absence of mentorship shaped his journey — and why he’s committed to offering young creatives the guidance, access, and community he once lacked.

From humble beginnings without a guide, Tongai Furusa built a creative business through trial and error — learning software, workflows, and leadership on his own. Tongai Furusa is a seasoned post-production specialist and Executive Founding Partner at 14, 10th Digital Film, a full-service post-production facility based in South Africa. With over two decades of experience in the film and television industry, Tongai has built a reputation as an Editor for crafting compelling visual narratives and delivering high-quality work across feature films, documentaries, series, and branded content.
His deep technical knowledge is matched by a sharp storytelling sensibility, having led post on numerous award-winning projects screened at major international festivals and acquired by global broadcasters and platforms. As Head of Post-Production, he works closely with directors and producers to shape each project’s tone, pace, and emotional resonance from offline to delivery.
He recently won the Best Editor Award at this years AMVCA11 awards for the Netflix feature film Inkabi and is currently working on post-production for East African hit series MTV Shuga Mashahariki which was filmed and produced in Kenya and Inimba, which is currently the number 1 most watched show on the DSTV platform.
Tongai is passionate about mentoring emerging talent and championing authentic African stories. He regularly collaborates with independent filmmakers and serves on juries and industry panels to promote inclusive and innovative storytelling. His commitment to craft and collaboration continues to shape the evolution of post-production in the region.
