Love your tools!
âA tool is generally considered to be anything that is used to carry out a function. Tools typically live in a box or a drawer. You grab one whenever you need to fix something, then put it back.
My parents taught me that tools are all around us, throughout our homes and at work. They spent time buying only what they needed, and taking great care to ensure longevity. They were always happy to share not just their tools, but to help others fix and build. They often told the story of their tools.
I keep these practices in mind when I use my tools. Some of them were carefully researched and purchased, others were inherited from friends and family. Using them creates a moment for me, to recall their story. Taking care and cleaning my tools gives me a sense of satisfaction, knowing I worked to keep them in great shape.â
About the speaker
Michael Pieracci comes from San Jose, California. Since 2013 he has lived in Berlin, leading project management for small teams, while also pursuing his personal interests of tea, travel, and photography. In 2015 he created an exhibition with unique points of view on color and texture found in tea. Before Berlin he was living in sunny San Francisco and worked at FontShop, where he co-Directed the TYPO San Francisco conference. Michael also loves presenting, for business or pleasure, on a range of topics. For him, itâs an opportunity to âperformâ his thoughts and stories with his photography and very succinct bits of text.
Michael is currently doing Product Management at teambay, a startup in Berlin, which makes an HR tool to improve communication and happiness in the workplace by letting employees and managers answer weekly questions and exchange feedback anonymously.
