About the speaker

Mentor – our topic in July!

This month’s theme, MENTOR, reminds us that no one climbs alone. Mentors help guide, support, and shape our growth—whether they’re experts or simply someone willing to share what they’ve learned.

We’re excited to welcome Michelle Michel as our speaker. A lifelong connector and changemaker, Michelle’s path has led her from global education to finance, to launching the Sustainable City Tours — a free, app-based initiative that highlights how Basel contributes to the 17 U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.

Michelle's story is one of reinvention, courage, and community. She shows us that being a mentor isn’t about being perfect — it’s about being present, curious, and willing to share what you’ve learned.

Through her talk, Michelle will explore the power of mentorship, career reinvention, and her mission to spotlight sustainability in cities using free, self-guided tours and scavenger hunts.

Our Speaker:

Michelle Michel is a connector at heart with a career spanning international education, finance, and sustainability. After starting in Chicago building global partnerships, she moved to Switzerland and spent years leading teams at UBS. In 2006, she founded Agora Advisors, supporting asset managers in the Swiss market. Today, Michelle leads the Sustainable City Tours, offering free, app-based tours that highlight local contributions to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. She’s passionate about social impact, lifelong learning, and helping others find their path.

About Sustainable City Tours:

Sustainable City Tours offers free, self-guided walking tours that showcase how cities support the 17 U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. Each tour highlights sustainable businesses, projects, and locations, with 10–15 informative stops. Participants can explore the city’s impact through the ActionBound app—ideal for schools, companies, conferences, or newcomers to Basel. Fun scavenger hunts with puzzles and tasks make the experience interactive and educational. You can even create a custom tour to highlight your organization’s sustainability efforts.
