The CEO of FreshBooks, Mike McDerment, shares his philosophy of transparency and why he saw it as a foundation for growing his company.
Why is being transparent so hard?
We save time and energy by telling the truth and speaking up; it even fortifies relationships and takes them to levels where trust grows. But shame and self-doubt gets in the way, which amplifies the fear and obstructs clear communication.
More and more organizations today are embracing a culture of transparency because the toxic workplace culture that was readily accepted decades ago is — and never was — feasible. In order for people to thrive and be happy at work, the spaces in which one is allowed to speak up, feel heard and respected, must be a new standard.
Mike McDerment, CEO of FreshBooks, shares how he planted that seed for transparency at the very beginning of growing his business and how that has bloomed into a culture.
