About the speaker
Mizari Suárez is a graduate of Bluegrass Community Technical College (BCTC) and Eastern Kentucky University who currently lives in Lexington's East End. Mizari was brought to the U.S. at the age of four from Torreon Coahuila, México. Suárez is a proud Mexicana immigrant who claims Lexington as her home.
Suárez is an advocate for social justice, civic engagement, and immigrant rights. During her time at BCTC, she became involved in the immigrant rights movement. She was an active member of the Kentucky Dream Coalition, an immigrant student-led organization fighting for immigrant rights in Kentucky and nationally. In 2016 Suárez broke away from KDC to get involved in local organizing involving food, housing, and racial justice. During this time, she concluded that she was not an activist but a neighbor who just needed to love those around her.
She is currently a mentor to a fabulous mentee and serves on the board for Seedleaf and Noli CDC. When not working in her "adult job," Mizari enjoys walking all over Lexington with her dog Sasha and eating tacos at a local taco truck with her best friends.
