Nathalie Pambrun – Being a Midwife to Creativity

This month’s speaker for our CreativeMornings event is Nathalie Pambrun – a Franco-Manitoban Métis midwife. . With 17 years of experience, they aim to bridge environmental and reproductive justice movements at the community level. Committed to midwifery care that is accessible, equitable, and culturally safe, Nathalie works primarily in Winnipeg with Indigenous teens and newcomers to Canada. . They are the past-President of the Canadian Association of Midwives (2018 - 2020) and have served a two-year term as the organization’s co-Chair between 2011-2012. Currently, they are the National Aboriginal Council of Midwives’ (NACM) Advocacy and Policy Advisor and a board member of Grand Challenges Canada.

About the speaker

Nathalie Pambrun is a Franco-Manitoban Métis midwife who has practiced for 16 years in urban, rural and remote communities across Canada and the world. Bridging environmental and reproductive justice movements at the community level, Nathalie embraces a human rights approach that effectively respects the coming generations. Nathalie is committed to midwifery care that is accessible, equitable, and culturally safe, working primarily with Indigenous teens and newcomers to Canada.

Nathalie is the President of the Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) and has served on the CAM Board of Directors for over nine years. Nathalie is CAM’s first ever Indigenous midwife to serve as President of the organization.

Nathalie is also a member of the Core Leadership of the National Aboriginal Council of Midwives (NACM) for the last 16 years and served a two-year term as the organization’s co-Chair between 2011-2012. Nathalie has been instrumental in building a unique partnership between these two midwifery associations that respects self-determination, reciprocity and humility. This relationship has informed CAM’s global framework and success in association strengthening.

Nathalie has been recently appointed to the Board of Grand Challenges Canada with a cross appointment to the Indigenous Innovation Council.
