About the speaker

Okechukwu Emmanuel Nnamchi is an Igbo man and a poet from the old city of Enugu (hilltop), a city in the southeastern part of Nigeria. He lives in Calgary, Alberta, and when he is not studying or working, he is writing poetry and compositions on the complexities of life. His style of poetry and delivery compels his listeners to think.

Okechukwu is a familiar face in the Calgary literary community, which results from the vibrant nature of the Calgary literary scene. He has read his many poems and performed spoken word poetry at events, which include:
The Pitbull Poetry in the Park reading series curated by the City of Calgary poet Laurette, Wakefield Brewster; 2022, Peoples Poetry Festival curated by Lisa Murphy Lamb; and the Alcove Live Artist Showcase: February 2023, Chinook Blast Edition.
He has performed as a featured poet during the “You Should Know” poetry event held at the Grand Theatre Calgary in 2022; at the 2023 People's Poetry Festival presented by the Alexandra Writers’ Centre; and also at the Poetry Parlor Open Mic, presented by the Writers’ Guild of Alberta and Pachamama Soul, where he is a regular reader.

He is currently part of a cohort in the 2023/24 TD incubator artists program ongoing at the Arts Commons, where he performed his latest spoken word titled “Foedus Amoris: When I Tell You I Love You,” which was widely received and applauded by the audience. And also, as part of his literary endeavour, he is working on materials to be published into books in the nearest soon.
