Adapting to Survive & Thrive

About the speaker

Kate deNeveu & David Murray are both graduates of the University of Virginia; they met at a house party. In college, David began his entrepreneurial journey with a tee shirt company which has since expanded into stickers and the wholesale market. Many years later they would make the move back to Charlottesville from Oakland, CA. in 2013, they opened their first location retail store on 4th street NE. 2 kids, 1 competitor acquisition, 2 location changes, and 1 name change later, Hello Comics was nominated for the Will Eisner Spirit of Retail Award at San Diego Comic Con in 2024. They attribute the positive growth of their business to their adaptability, their excellent employees, and what David calls their Perfect Strangers-esque partnership.
